OWC Partners with Neighbors Network

NN_Logo_jpgOur Whole Community is a partner of a new organization called Neighbors Network.

Neighbors Network is a member organization for adults age 55+ in Winter Park, Maitland, Eatonville and the surrounding area who want to age at home with confidence. Through volunteers, partners, screened service providers, and community partners, Neighbors Network provides the support that allows older adults to continue living and thriving in their homes and community “with a little help from their friends.”

Our Whole Community provides programming opportunities to Neighbors Network members, giving those in the network access to programs that promote mind, body and spirit.  Click here to view the calendar of programs available.

Thank you to the Winter Park Health Foundation for being a funder of Neighbors Network.

Leah Nash, Executive Director for OWC, also sits on the Advisory Committee, Planning Committee and Programs Committee for Neighbors Network.

OWC Chair Featured in YMCA Campaign

414-1OWC Board Chair, Lavon Williams, was recently featured in the YMCA’s First Responders Heroes Salute.  First Responders were invited to the Crosby YMCA Wellness Center on September 11th to observe a moment of silent and light refreshments.  Events were held at YMCAs throughout Central Florida in honor of first responders as well.

Not only is Lavon Williams Board Chair of OWC, he is also a deacon at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, one of OWC’s founding churches.  Williams leads the health ministry at Macedonia and is a firefighter/EMT with Orange County.

Plant Your Thanksgiving Dinner

Yes!  It is time to start planting those beans, squash, pumpkins and whatever else yo would like to include in your Thanksgiving dinner now.  On September 21st, OWC hosted a Plant Your Thanksgiving Dinner at the OWC Garden at Winter Park Presbyterian Church.

OWC Garden Consultant Tia Meer spoke to attendees about what should be planted now and how to take care of your garden for optimal growth.  Attendees even got their hands dirty and planted seeds themselves.

Attendees also received seeds and learned about OWC products such as grow boxes and the Perfect Pickler, presented by OWC Garden Director, Rosemary George.

Thank you to OWC Garden Coordinators Mark Wilson and Becky Perez for also attending and planning this event.
