  Dr. Bob Bushong - Senior Pastor

Bob Bushong has served as the Senior Pastor/Minister of Preaching at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park since June 2000. In this position, Bob preaches at the three services on most Sunday mornings, provides spiritual leadership for the staff and the congregation, serves as the primary vision caster for the ministry of the church, and is involved in many different ways in the life of the church through worship leadership, teaching, visitation, pastoral care, ministry planning and various administrative duties.

Bob grew up in Ft. Lauderdale.  He graduated from Stetson University in 1974 with a degree in English and Sociology, and then received a masters in social work degree from Florida State University in 1976.  After working as a counselor with troubled children, teenagers, and their families, Bob felt a call to ordained ministry.  He enrolled at Duke University Divinity School from which he received a master of divinity degree in 1981, and has been serving churches in the Florida Annual Conference since that time.  In 1996 Bob received a doctor of ministry degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Bob is married to Jeanne Bushong, an elementary school teacher with the Orange County School System.  They have two young adult children and one grandchild.  Prior to moving to Winter Park the Bushong family lived in Hunter's Creek, where Bob was the founding pastor of Peace United Methodist Church, serving there from 1991 - 2000.

 

             

      Betsy McKeeby - Parish Nurse

Betsy has served as parish nurse at First United Methodist Church of Winter Park since November 2003. Her RN background has primarily included work in coronary care and cardiac rehabilitation with an emphasis on helping people achieve a healthy lifestyle after they have learned of a heart diagnosis.

Growing up as a Methodist preacher’s kid in East Tennessee, she graduated with a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has additional coursework in adult education, clinical pastoral education and parish nursing and is certified in cardiac and vascular nursing by the ANCC.

Betsy and her husband Jim have a grown son in the area and twin boys in college. They reside in Lake Mary.

Brain Fitness Club is a program for persons experiencing early memory loss.  It is held from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays with socialization, light physical exercise, mental stimulation and coping strategies all in a relaxed supportive fun environment.  Contact Peggy Bargmann at 407-927-4380 or email at brain.fitness@yahoo.com to discuss appropriateness of program and possible enrollment.  Each person must be evaluated before enrollment.

Gentle Yoga Classes are held each Monday and Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 in the Family Life Center Room 316A. Gentle yoga is appropriate for all adults. No previous experience is necessary. Gentle Yoga is a series of stretches including yoga poses with some focus on breathing. Classes are taught by Gwen Burnett, certified Yoga teacher in the Integral Hatha Yoga tradition and registered Yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. Donations are accepted.

Jazzercise is a 60-minute class incorporating cardio, strength, and stretch moves for a total body workout. All ages, fitness levels, and sizes are welcome. You don’t need any dance experience to enjoy this class. Classes are offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:30am to 10:30am and Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 7pm.  The cost is $34 per month (electronic funds transfer) or $80 for eight weeks of unlimited classes. The joining fee of $35 is waived for members of the church. Contact Nancy Lowe, certified Jazzercise instructor, at 407-321-7761.  

Hatha Yoga classes (Level 1) are held on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 and on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 in the Family Life Center Room 305. Monday class includes light hand weights. Classes are open to all members of the community and no prior experience is necessary. Beginners learn and improve poses and breathing; experienced students focus on the foundations of their practice. The cost is $14 for single classes, $44 for four classes, and $80 for eight classes. Scholarships are available. Classes are taught by Vickie Reedy, certified instructor in YogaFit and Sign Chi Do (a medically-based Christian relaxation program).

Hatha Yoga classes (Level 2) meet on Wednesday mornings in the Family Life Center Room 305 from 9:30 to 10:45. More challenging poses are presented by Vickie and poses are held longer than in Level 1.
